The new #SIR2024 SCImago Research Group allows analysis of countries based on 3 factors (research, innovation, and societal impact) and 20 indicators. The Societal Factor has been modified to include 3 new indicators that reflect more specifically the societal impact achieved by an institution: among them, the generation of new knowledge related to the Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations, the participation of women in research processes and the use of the results obtained in the creation or improvement of public policies. Thanks to the agreement between SCImago and Overton, we can offer this important look at the social impact of research. Take a look at our methodology.

A total of 9,054 institutions have been classified in the SIR2024, of these, 4,762 are universities

5 keys to take advantage of the new SIR2024

1. Use filters to identify institutional strengths. The SIR offers various classifications of universities, the default view is the ordering by the composite indicator (overall), but filters can be made: By factor (research, innovation, societal). By sector (universities, government, health, private, and others). By subject areas and categories.

2. Compare the ranking performance of two or more institutions. Compare up to 6 institutions regardless of their country or sector.

3. See infographics for global or particular views. You can look at the global distribution of institutions or how their position has changed over time, for example.

4. Answer questions about the indicators by consulting the methodology. We describe in detail the indicators that are analyzed in each factor, the changes that have been applied in the latest versions, and the scientific support (published articles) on the indicators and their importance in measuring science.

5. Last but not least, check out an institution's profile. You will find:

  • Evolution in each factor
  • Comparison tools at a national, regional or global level
  • Similar institutions according to the publication profile
  • Journals where scientific publication has been carried out in the period.
  • and more smile
